How Do I Qualify for the CARS Program?

• The car is titled in your name and has been for the last year 

• The car is registered in your name and has been for at least the last year 

• The car has been continuously insured for the last year 

• The trade-in car is in drivable condition 

• Your vehicle must be less than 25 years old on the trade-in date  

• Trade-in vehicles must get 18 or less MPG. Go to www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm

• Some very large pick-up trucks and cargo vans have different requirements
  
  
• You have not previously participated in the CARS program 

What are the Limitations on the Car I Purchase?

• The program does not apply to the purchase of used vehicles 

• You may lease a new vehicle provided the lease period is at least five years 

• The manufacturer's suggested retail price cannot exceed $45,000 

• New autos must have a combined fuel economy value of at least 22 miles per gallon. Go to www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm
